A fade that still reads sharp on day twelve
Skin fades, beard work and hot towel shaves on Milwaukee Avenue. Chairs open at nine every morning — before work, after it, or on a Sunday. Walk in and take the next one.

What happens in the chair
Four things that go wrong somewhere else
You have sat in a chair where the clippers started moving before you finished the sentence, and walked out with a cut you had to explain to people for two weeks. That is the part we take slowly.
The consult
Nobody picks up a clipper until you have said what you want and we have said back what that means. Bring a photo if it is easier.
The fade
The blend at the temple and the back of the neck, taken slowly. A fade is either clean or it is not, and you find out on day four, not in the mirror at the chair.
The line
Straight razor at the cheek and the neck, so the edge of your beard is a line you can see — not a drift into stubble that grows out crooked.
The hot towel
Hot towel to open the skin, then the shave, then the towel again. It is on the menu because it belongs there, not as something you have to be talked into at the end.

The shop
Poured floors, black stations, a game on
A wide, bright room on Milwaukee Avenue: pearl epoxy poured across the whole floor, grey walls, black stations with mirror lights, a wall of reclaimed plank behind the chairs and a television that is usually showing something.

The barbers
Ask for a name when you walk in
A lot of people feel funny walking in and asking for a barber by name. Most have found it is the fastest way to get the cut they had in mind — so ask for Danny or Memo at the desk, or take whoever is free. The standard is the same either way.
